Turbosan Fire Booster Pump with UL/FM Certification

The UL (Underwriters Laboratories) standard is one of the most recognized and highest-level standards in the world concerning various firestop and smoke barrier materials. This American organization, approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), has been testing and evaluating fire safety products and fire protection equipment for over a century. Products and manufacturers that meet UL’s stringent safety criteria receive certification marked with the UL symbol.

Fire Fighting Booster Pumps According to the UL standard, these booster pumps are among the essential fire suppression components used in buildings with high levels of importance, and they are approved by the UL organization. These booster pumps consist of two main parts: mechanical and electrical. The mechanical section includes the pump and valves, with the pump drive powered by either an electric motor, a diesel engine, or a combination of both. The electrical section consists of control panels, with a UL/FM-standard electrical panel provided for each pump.

TURBOSAN Company, Turkey One of the companies approved by the UL standards organization manufactures high-quality pumps in various sizes and capacities. The Turbosan brand’s End Suction pumps (model NORM) and Split Case pumps (model CEP), which are designed and produced for use in fire fighting booster pump systems, are UL Listed and certified.

In firefighting booster pumps, electric motors, diesel engines, control panels, and other connected equipment with UL Listed and FM Approved certifications are used.

Turbosan fire pumps are manufactured in various capacities, and the appropriate model is selected based on the head and flow rate required for the project. End Suction pumps are produced with flow rates ranging from 50 GPM to 2000 GPM and a maximum pressure of 240 PSI. Split Case pumps are manufactured with flow rates from 500 GPM to 3000 GPM and a maximum pressure of 225 PSI, in various models and sizes.

In addition to being manufactured in accordance with the NFPA20 standard, Turbosan pumps are also certified with standards such as: UL and FM These booster pumps can also be assembled in combinations of electric motor – diesel motor or two electric motors. Additionally, a jockey pump is incorporated in these booster pumps to maintain the system pressure steady or to keep the system on standby and pressurized against minor leaks.

NFPA 20 Standard: Standard for Turbosan Fire Booster Pumps and Fire Pumps

Standard NFPA 20 (National Fire Protection Association Standard) The most important and up-to-date global standard for the design, selection, manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of fire pumps. This standard ensures the correct and timely operation of fire pumps in emergency situations as well as the safety of facilities and buildings against fire.

Design and Selection Requirements for Pumps:

  • Calculating flow rate and head according to the system's requirements

Pump power supply:

  • Electric motors (which must be connected to emergency power or a diesel generator).
  • Diesel engines (with a fuel tank sized according to the engine's power).
  • Jockey pump to maintain system pressure and compensate for possible leaks.

Difference between NFPA 20 and UL/FM standards:

Component NFPA 20 UL Listed FM Approved
Main focus Design and installation of pumps Product safety testing Quality approval for insurers
Mandatory requirement Mandatory in the USA Optional (but recognized) Optional (recognized and trusted by insurers)
Performance test Performance approval under real conditions Electrical / mechanical safety testing Fire and explosion resistance test
